Kids love strange creatures and this series has plenty of strange creatures. Did you know the Kiwi is the only bird with nostrils at the end of its beak? The nostrils help it smell the worms in the dirt! The construction of each book places a "Words to Know" page at the beginning. This is a good idea because so many of the terms might be new vocabulary. The photographs are stunning and show these creatures in their elements. The series would be an appropriate support to classroom science lessons about animal adaptations. I know these books will get quite a bit of use in my library. The end matter in each book includes books and websites as further resources, as well as photo credits. Recommended., Library Media Connection January/February 2010
