The I Like Plants! series is a wonderful set of six books, each of which can stand alone in a classroom or school library. Author Mary Dodson Wade does an excellent job delivering a lot of information about plants in a very kid-friendly way. One of the best things about the series is the activity found at the end of each book; it is something that can be done at home or easily in a classroom setting. The activities involve age-appropriate observation and data collection for kids in grades K-3. The language used is perfect for that audience and is also great for those late-blooming fourth-grade readers. By being easy to read, yet having lots of great information and interesting facts, the books fills a niche that is often difficult to fill in this age range.
