Putting this list at the beginning encourages readers to look for these important words as they read about these amazing animals. The book includes information describing hunting and reproductive behavior, how the whales bodies are well suited to their frigid environment, plus the human impact on these ocean mammals. Full of colorful illustrations and easy-to-read text, the book excels at packing in all sorts of fascinating information about belugas, including that belugas have dorsal ridges that enable them to break through the ice to swim freely, and that their young are born gray in color, with little protective blubber.
