The internet makes it easy to find all sorts of information for any project your readers might have, but how can they tell if the information you find is correct? The advent of the internet has given birth to its own research protocol. The virtual library has replaced the home library, and in many cases, the school library or community library as the initial go-to place for doing research of any description. The Internet and the World Wide Web are explained in the introductory chapter, as well as the various web browsers that can used, with an emphasis on on-line safety. Gaines presents an approach to structuring research on the web, as well as defining the concept of keywords, highlighting the utility of an Idea Map, and explaining the function of search engines. Key concepts such as Copyright and Creating Web Pages are set against a yellow background with black text. Suggested tools, such as a form for evaluating a web site, instructions on how to structure information on index cards, and how to record information for a bibliography are set aside in contrast colored blocks with bright titles and sidebars. Color photographs expand the information in the text.
