Pocahontas
Early readers will delight in the page-turning story of Pocahontas, daughter of a powerful Algonquian Indian chief. From the legendary tale of the celebrated Indian princess who risked her life to save settler John Smith from death, to her capture by an English captain, to her marriage to John Rolfe, author Carin T. Ford sorts fact from fiction. Today, Pocahontas lives on as a symbol of peace between different races.

Heroes of American History series. The brief text of this book, comprised of simple statements, may serve very young report writers. Almost every page includes a colorful illustration: a map, tinted engraving, oil painting, or photograph. Although the text is bland and oversimplified at times, the volume does an adequate job of conveying to early readers Pocahontas's historical importance. Reading list, timeline, websites.
