In 1973, an Australian band calling themselves AC/DC debuted before a live audience at a club in Sydney. The groups over the top energy, wild behavior, and outrageous outfits (ranging from a policemans uniform to a pilots, to a clowns costume) brought the crowds to their feet. Their interpretations of well-known songs done by the Rolling Stones and the Beatles excited young people who never seemed to tire of the wild boys music. The unusual band name was suggested by the Young brothers sister who saw the letters AC/DC printed on the side of a sewing machine and thought of the electrical power the band sent out to audiences. Over the years, the band had twenty different musicians, but the Young brothers, Malcolm and Angus, remained steadfast. In 1978, the band went on a worldwide tour, building a career that has lasted over thirty years. Their records have sold in the millions; one of them, Black in Black, receiving the Diamond Award for 10 millions copies sold. In 2002, the band was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and signed with Epic Records. In 2008, AC/DC brought out a new album Black Ice, their first in over ten years. Today, the band has five members and is still performing their special style of rock music. The author gives a good picture of the band members and some explanation of why they have remained so long in the public eye. Back material includes a timeline, discography, concert tours, a glossary, chapter notes, reading list, and internet sites. Black and white and color photographs included., Children's Literature
